Fact – Textbooks take time to write, edit, review, publish, include artwork graphs, tables, print, publish, market, distribute, and ultimately sell to the student. Within the rapid change of the healthcare today, college textbooks (including the e-book variety), are often outdated before the student purchases the “latest” edition. This may not apply to subjects such as math, American history, grammar, biographies, or fairytales. However, it is blatantly apparent regarding healthcare, artificial intelligence, and related technology.

Being a University Instructor within Healthcare Programs for more than a decade, I can attest to the recent and complete absence of any mention of the COVID-19 pandemic within our current Public Health textbook (from 2021). A global pandemic impacting millions of people, and there is no mention of the role and work of Public Health within COVID found in the required (and not inexpensive) text.
