With over 90 randomized control trials, the collaborative care model is an evidence-based model to identify and treat patients with depression and anxiety in healthcare settings. Utilizing partnerships with behavioral health care managers and psychiatric consultants, collaborative care gives primary care providers access to behavioral health care for their patients at a time when depression and anxiety are on the rise, and many communities struggle with access to behavioral health treatment. In recent years, it has become increasingly adopted as many depression and anxiety prescriptions are written by primary care providers, who are among the first individuals to interact with patients with behavioral health conditions.
