Lawmakers in the most economically successful states are finding that with great population growth comes the need for a greater supply of physicians, nurses, dentists, dental hygienists, and other health care providers. Reforms now pending in two of the nation’s fastest growing states — Florida and North Carolina — demonstrate how lawmakers are seeking to increase the supply of health care in their state by reducing regulatory impediments.

In North Carolina, which had the nation’s third fastest population growth in nominal terms last year, Representative Erin Parè recently introduced House Bill 1056, legislation aimed at increasing the supply of certain care providers.
