With the annual announcements from big health insurers that they are expanding their geographic footprints for 2025 just a month away, reports are emerging that such growth may not happen as it has in recent years.

Take a new analysis from the management consulting firm Oliver Wyman, which warns of “pressure building on Medicare Advantage.”

A year ago in early October, health insurance companies that are the biggest players in privatized Medicare Advantage coverage, including Cigna, CVS Health’s Aetna, Elevance Health, Humana and UnitedHealth Group announced plans to expand in scores of new counties for 2024.
