Uncertainty surrounded the future of Hospital-at-Home (HaH) programs as the end of 2024 approached, but a last-minute legislative decision ensured their continuation—at least for now.
Congress passed a year-end spending bill that included a three-month extension of pandemic-era telehealth flexibilities and the Acute Hospital Care at Home (AHCAH) waiver, both of which were set to expire at the end of 2024.
While the temporary extension was set to run out at the end of March, Congress later passed a continuing resolution further extending the flexibility through September 30, 2025. This move allows hospitals to continue delivering acute care in patients’ homes and maintain expanded telehealth services under Medicare.
