Genetics has been shown to play a role in a person’s likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s disease, and research has found that you’re more likely to inherit Alzheimer’s from your mother than your father, according to a recent study published in JAMA Neurology.

For the study, researchers recruited 4,400 people between the ages of 65 and 85 from the United States, Canada, Japan, and Australia who had memory loss and trouble solving problems. They asked the participants whether either of their parents had ever been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and when their parent’s memory started to fail.
