Undergoing surgery isn’t one of those DIY (“do it yourself”) situations. Don’t go it at alone. Instead, make sure that you have other people helping you before, during and after the surgical procedure. This means others who can support and advocate for you beyond the surgeons, nurses and other health professionals who will be taking care of you medically.

But when selecting the folks to help you, be very, very careful. The right people can be fantastic. The wrong people can make things miserable and even endanger your well-being and life.
