As the US begins to emerge from lockdown, there will be numerous think pieces about what we’ve learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and what steps need to be taken for the future. If you haven’t read one yet, consider yourself initiated. Among the many pain points identified within our country’s support systems over the past few months: hospital administration.

Imagine being a front-line worker, frazzled from working seemingly endless shifts, tending to the barrage of patients admitted for respiratory distress. First off, there’s the triage: having to assess within moments which patients’ prognosis requires the fastest attention and earliest access to a ventilator. Rushing from corridor to corridor in search of breathing assistance devices is not conducive to optimum care....
