As 2025 came to a close, I looked back on a year of writing about public health and was struck by several themes that were hiding in plain sight. Facing unprecedented changes and challenges, public health professionals are moving forward through partnerships, local leadership and persistence under pressure. The following lessons from last year can guide and inspire us as we look ahead to 2026.

1. Public Health Is Everywhere, Even When We Don’t Call It That
