A steadfast commitment to downsizing often comes at a cost

I was reading through a recent issue of Annals of Internal Medicine when a particular study caught my attention. The research, examining hospital staffing and patient outcomes after private equity acquisition, revealed something deeply troubling: hospital emergency departments experienced an 18.2% reduction in salary expenditures and a subsequent increase in patient mortality following private equity acquisition. As I considered these findings, a parallel came to fruition in my mind — one that extends far beyond hospital walls and into the very operationalization of the federal government.
