THE AUSTERITY ERA — President Donald Trump isn’t the only one chipping away at global health funding and solidarity. Nine European countries, including big donors, are slashing foreign aid, POLITICO’s Carmen Paun reports.

The cuts have led to a precipitous drop in overall global health — to a 15-year low in 2025 — as nations focus on other priorities.

Why it matters: That’s leading to fears that there will be an eventual repeat of the disorderly response to the coronavirus.
