The U.S. is facing multiple infectious disease outbreaks. The measles outbreak started quietly in Texas in late January. Since that time, it has rapidly grown, with two deaths and almost 200 cases in the region. Most of the infections are in unvaccinated children. There are cases in New Mexico, and scattered instances are occurring in several other states, from Washington and California to Pennsylvania and along the East Coast.

At the same time, we are seeing rising cases of bird flu H5N1 decimating poultry farms and severely impacting dairy farms. More infected mammals are being identified, with the spread to cats being of particular concern. Officials have identified 70 human cases and one death in the U.S.
