Qualified veterans and their caregivers will receive Facebook’s standalone Portal video-chatting device to reduce isolation and improve social connectedness at home.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs continues its rollout of telehealth tools through a partnership with social media company Facebook and the American Red Cross.

WHY IT MATTERS
Through the partnership, qualified veterans and their caregivers will receive Facebook’s stand-alone video-chatting device, Portal, to reduce isolation and improve social connectedness at home.

The Portal device comes equipped a smart camera. Users can make video calls to their contacts on Messenger and WhatsApp. Portal also comes with Amazon’s Alexa service preloaded to allow users to listen to music or do online shopping.
