The acting executive in charge of the Veterans Health Administration issued a blog post talking about the advantages of the Veteran’s Health Information Exchange.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is preparing for the Veteran’s Health Information Exchange, VHIE, to become an opt-in health information exchange, the agency explained in a recent blog post.

This change will improve patient care and care coordination as the agency continues work on the community care parts of the MISSION Act, rolled out in July 2019.

The VHIE improves patient safety and allows for interoperability for veterans receiving care at the community providers.

It gives providers access to laboratory results, medications, health history, medications, immunizations, allergies, illnesses, and occupational health information for veterans. This...
