Policy endeavors to do more research into racial mental health disparities, plus community engagement, will be critical to ensure equity.
Between 2016 and 2020 alone, the cost of racial mental health disparities shook out to $278 billion and 117,000 human lives, according to research by the Satcher Health Leadership Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine. And without health policy intervention and community engagement, that pattern will continue, according to Daniel Dawes, JD, DHL (Hon), a professor and the executive director of the Institute.
