In today’s column, I examine the use of nonlinear branching when conversing with generative AI and large language models (LLMs), especially in the case of interacting for mental health purposes.

Here’s the deal. Most people linearly use AI. You ask a question, and the AI responds with an answer. This keeps going as long as you wish to converse with the AI. However, sometimes you may want to branch off from a mainstay conversation and explore a tangent related to the current considerations. Fortunately, contemporary AI allows this.
