Shortly after SARS-CoV-2 arrived in central New York in March 2020, the region did a great job of beating down and flattening the COVID curve. Closing venues where people could gather (like our St. Patrick’s Day parade), mask wearing, and reducing personal movement all prevented infections. Since September, however, the ‘wheels have come off.’ The percent of daily positive tests is increasing, the hospitals are filling up, and our intensive care units and critically ill patient volumes are rising.
