Like the election before it, the 2020 presidential election is already proving to be a referendum on health care – and the stakes for consumers couldn’t be higher.

Recent polling confirms that health care remains Americans’ single greatest concern and they want candidates to respond to their worries. Consumers want the security that comes from knowing their access to care won’t be put at risk because of a pre-existing condition or a change in job, that they will be able to afford their medications, and that essential health care will not result in a financial crisis. At the same time, researchers from Kaiser Family Foundation described survey data from last summer as showing that “the public likes choice and competition”...
