As Democrats gather in Chicago and Epic users convene in Verona WI this week, the future of the healthcare system will be on the agenda for both gatherings, but with a different focus:

Democrats will take a victory lap for announcing last week’s drug pricing discount deal with 10 manufacturers as a result of their Inflation Reduction Act. They will promise additional savings on medications for “hard working Americans” despite uncertainty about exactly what Medicare enrollees will actually save in the deal or whether it can be extended beyond Medicare. They will promise to protect the Affordable Care Act and make its insurance subsidies permanent and insinuate price controls are needed for drugs, devices, insurance premiums and hospital bills.
