In 2026, the healthcare CIO priority will be more demanding and visible than ever. Technology advances rapidly, but the real challenge is not keeping up with every new tool. It’s knowing where to focus. Today’s CIO must understand how emerging technologies fit into clinical and business processes while also operating as a business leader who helps senior executives turn technology into a competitive advantage. With time and attention in short supply, success will come down to focusing on what actually moves the organization forward.

Two areas stand out. First, CIOs must push AI beyond experimentation and into scaled, measurable impact. Second, they must lead with a growth attitude that welcomes change, partnerships, and lifelong learning as core leadership responsibilities.
