UNDER SCRUTINY — Medicare spending on pricey skin substitutes is expected to balloon by about 50 percent by the end of 2025, according to new data published exclusively by POLITICO.

Skin substitutes are types of grafts that mimic human skin and are used to treat certain wounds.

The data, compiled by the National Association of Accountable Care Organizations, shows that by the end of the year, Medicare spending on the products will have increased from around $10 billion in 2024 to more than $15 billion, POLITICO’s Robert King reports.
