Transplantation is a field that exists to restore health, and organ transplant has been a durable treatment option for patients with end-stage organ disease for more than 40 years. In the United States, the most common diseases that lead to end-stage organ disease are diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and substance use disorder. These chronic conditions share similar risk factors, including an unhealthy diet and physical inactivity; all are linked to socioeconomic status and other social determinants of health (SDOH).
