Telehealth platforms powered by agentic AI, including virtual visits, remote patient monitoring, ambient clinical documentation and AI-driven triage face new and heightened cybersecurity risks in 2026, The AI Journal reported Dec. 2.

These risks have become more serious as more than 90% of large health systems utilize telehealth for virtual visits on a weekly basis. Here are three cybersecurity risks facing telehealth in 2026:

AI-generated clinical impersonation and synthetic patient fraud: The rise of AI-powered impersonation is the “single biggest emerging threat” for telehealth in Q1 of 2026, according to the report, as the new form of clinical fraud utilizes deepfakes, synthetic patient profiles and AI-generated clinical narratives.
