A short-term funding bill was introduced in Congress March 8 to avoid an imminent government shutdown and extend government funding through September, CBS News reported March 10.

The funding bill would lock in a 2.83% cut to physician payments for 2025, in the face of a projected 3.5% rise in the Medicare Economic Index, which measures the cost of running a medical practice.

The American Medical Association’s President Bruce Scott said in a March 9 statement that the cuts would be damaging for physician practices, many of which are already struggling to keep their doors open in an unpredictable economic environment.
