Health care affordability, as indicated by out-of-pocket costs, is a leading health care concern for Americans. However, efforts to increase health care value have remained focused on reducing the total costs of care, with little attention to rising out-of-pocket costs. Addressing health care affordability requires new strategies and interventions for health systems and policy makers to create meaningful improvement.
