Text-based psychotherapy can be as effective as video sessions for treating depression, according to research published Oct. 30 in JAMA Network Open.

For the study, researchers from Seattle-based University of Washington School of Medicine evaluated 850 adults receiving care through Talkspace, a commercial mental health platform, using standardized tests such as PHQ-9 to measure outcomes.
