Each year, at least 1.9 million people die from a heart attack or stroke linked to excess salt intake. But taking salt out of food that’s already prepared is impossible, and many of us are hesitant to keep the saltshaker off the table. Rather than relying solely on cutting salt to prevent strokes and heart attacks, there’s a new opportunity: Switch the salt we use to a healthier alternative without affecting the taste of our favorite foods.
