The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) recently announced it will provide approximately $185 million over 5 years for a consortium studying how genomic variation influences human health and disease.

The Impact of Genomic Variation on Function (IGVF) consortium, launched in September 2020 by the NHGRI, will use experimental and computational genomic approaches to build a catalog of genomic variants and their effect on genome function and phenotypes. All information generated by the consortium’s 30 US sites will be available to the research community for free via a web portal.
