The bankrupt health system had sought a buyer for the facility for months without success, according to court documents.

- Steward Health Care plans to close Pennsylvania-based Sharon Regional Medical Center on Jan. 6 after a proposed sale to Meadville Medical Center fell through.
- The deal, which has been on tenuous ground since August, fell apart after Meadville was unable to secure “adequate funding to financially stabilize the hospital for the long-term,” according to a Dec. 16 news release.
- Steward filed notice in federal bankruptcy court on Monday stating it intends to provide Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notifications to “substantially all employees” and discharge or transfer all patients prior to the planned closing date.
