New York has the highest number of practicing surgeons, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, from May 2023.

Note: This list does not include ophthalmologic, orthopedic and pediatric surgeons. No data was available for Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Missouri, Nevada and Washington, D.C.
