When Ziegler set out to explore the state of senior living leadership in 2025, it found some good news.

The specialty investment bank specifically looked for gender-related information as it prepared to co-sponsor the Holleran Senior Living Women’s Leadership Retreat.

Focusing on the top 25 not-for-profit multisite senior living and care organizations and top 25 not-for-profit single-site providers in the 2025 LeadingAge Ziegler 200 (a total of 50 systems/communities), Ziegler found that 38 (76%) of the CEOs were men and 12 (24%) were women.

At first blush, that finding might not seem ideal, and certainly room for growth exists, but by comparison, at the top 25 companies of the Fortune 500, there are 23 men (92%) and two women (8%)...
