“Using this platform could be bad for your mental well-being” probably won’t be the warning that social media users see in the future, but if the calls from U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy are heeded, the platforms may be required to offer some of the warning labels.

Dr. Murthy called for warning labels on social media in an op-ed for The New York Times, where he wrote, “It is time to require a surgeon general’s warning label on social media platforms, stating that social media is associated with significant mental health harms for adolescents.”
