It’s that time of year again when many of us dream of chestnuts roasting in an open fire, as those long winter nights draw in.
Open fire places might look comforting and cosy, but what about the smoke they can generate? Are they also generating air pollution and damaging our health?
Some campaigners are so concerned about the possible health risk that they recently urged the U.K. government to phase out of wood burning stoves and open fires in homes by 2030.
The non-profit Global Action Plan published a new report, which calls for a “significant policy change” around wood burning stoves in order to protect people from air pollution it says is being caused by domestic burning.
