Helping residents stay healthier longer is a hallmark of senior living, and managed care is starting to notice by offering strategies and programs to improve care quality and coordination in those settings, managed care experts said Tuesday.

They discussed the risks and opportunities for senior living to delve into the world of managed care during a WTW webinar.

Senior living providers looking to participate in managed care, they said, first must understand the variety of arrangements — accountable care organizations, value-based care integrated networks, clinically integrated networks, special needs plans and Medicare Advantage plans — as well as their differing reimbursement metrics, methodologies for meeting criteria, and who can and cannot be part of a plan.
