A small government agency responsible for surveilling the practice of medicine and patient safety is taking a big hit as HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. overhauls the department.

Kennedy announced major cuts across the Department of Health and Human Services, removing some 10,000 staffers from its rosters. The cuts are expected to take effect on May 27th, according to a missive to union leaders from Thomas Nagy, HHS Deputy Assistant Secretary for Human Resources. Included are staff at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, a lesser-known agency that focuses on improving the care that doctors provide.
