SENATE MEDICAID PLAN FALLOUT — Hospitals typically get what they want on Capitol Hill — but not this week.

When Senate Republicans on the Finance Committee released their version of the “big beautiful bill” Monday, hospitals got an unpleasant surprise, POLITICO’s Robert King, Caitlin Oprysko, Jordain Carney and Amanda Chu report.

The House-passed version of the bill included a provision freezing a loophole that states have used to boost payments to hospitals serving the low-income patients enrolled in Medicaid. But the Senate Finance proposal went even further than the House measure by curtailing states’ ability to impose taxes on providers.
