What are the keys to conducting successful cybersecurity tabletops? How many should organizations be doing, and how can they be done with internal resources? Below are my top tips.

  • Get executive buy-in and support for conducting cyber TTXs. Earn this; don’t expect it.
  • Start by selecting the right team. Choose people that are hungry to learn, excellent at planning and facilitating conversation, and can write a report that invokes action.
  • Ease up on your jargon. TTX lingo can sound like 90s action film: Players, hotwash, injects, trusted agents. To the unfamiliar, which most of your employee base fall under, you’ll have a better experience if you make terms abundantly clear ahead of time or avoid them entirely.
