Dr. Reji Kurien Thomas discusses innovative secure blockchain solutions to safeguard decentralized systems from future quantum threats.

As quantum computing advances, it brings opportunities and challenges, especially in cybersecurity. The encryption methods that support most of today’s blockchain technology—like elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) and RSA—work well against traditional computing risks. However, quantum algorithms (especially Shor’s algorithm) might break these encryption systems, leading to weaknesses in blockchain structures.

I’ve been working on these risks by creating quantum-secure blockchain systems that use post-quantum cryptography to keep blockchain networks safe in the long run. This research is based on cryptographic progress but also looks at the need for scalability and efficiency in blockchain technology.
