Hospitals and health systems are trailing behind in their preparations for the sweeping data-sharing requirements mandated by CMS, according to new survey findings from the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI).

Among provider organizations surveyed, more than half—52%—reported that they have not yet initiated work on the APIs required under the CMS Final Rule on Advancing Interoperability and Improving Prior Authorization, also known as CMS-0057-F. The survey indicated that these mandates, which must be implemented by January 1, 2027, are posing significant challenges to health systems across the country.
