The proposed Consumer Online Privacy Rights bill would give US consumers similar privacy rights as those granted by EU GDPR; it would also establish an FTC enforcement bureau.

Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Washington and several prominent democrats recently introduced a privacy bill that would provide consumers with similar protections to those found in the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The Consumer Online Privacy Rights Act takes aim at empowering consumers, specifically giving individuals the right to request the names of data companies that store their data and the right to request the data be deleted or corrected.

Companies would also need to obtain explicit consent from consumers to collect and share their data, while mandating companies only collect the data...
