LET THE BRAINSTORM BEGIN — House Republicans voted Wednesday to end the shutdown — passing a deal negotiated in the Senate to fully fund the government through Jan. 30. Democrats couldn’t secure an extension of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies set to expire at the end of the year — failing to deliver on their chief demand.

President Donald Trump signed the legislation on Wednesday evening.

But without an extension, Republicans in Congress and the White House are starting to squirm under the pressure of rising health care costs and scrambling to come up with proposals they hope will ease any backlash.
