-To improve health outcomes, we need to put more emphasis on primary care

The U.S. has long been and remains a world leader when it comes to innovation and furthering medical science, so why is it that our healthcare system is at the bottom of the heap among the world’s advanced nations when it comes to value?

The reasons are numerous and complex, but in his recent article, Allan Goroll makes a convincing case for primary care as a central factor, i.e., nations that appreciate the pivotal role of primary care (and finance it accordingly) rank among the highest in population health while containing per-capita healthcare costs.

These countries spend about 20% of their total healthcare dollars on primary care...
