Physician net worth above $5M, by specialty

Physician compensation continued to rise in 2023, with 60% reporting net worth above $1 million, according to Medscape’s “Physician Wealth & Debt Report” published June 16.

The report is based on survey responses from 7,000 U.S. physicians in more than 29 specialties collected between Oct. 2, 2023, and Jan. 16, 2024.

Here are specialties ranked by the percentage of physicians worth more than $5 million:

Urology — 33%

Gastroenterology — 31%

Radiology — 31%

Cardiology — 28%

Orthopedics — 28%

Otolaryngology —26 %
