Pew Charitable Trusts wants to see strong medical device and EHR interoperability regulations in the physician fee schedule (PFS) and the merit-based incentive payment system (MIPS), the organization wrote in a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The letter addresses Pew’s concerns about EHR interoperability and the financial relationships between medical device manufacturers and the clinicians who buy their products.

Pew specifically wants to expand how EHRs share patient medical data with each other, including standardizing data used to match patient records and giving patients the ability to actively contribute to their own medical record.
