Patients with mental health disorders are roughly two times as likely to die from Covid-19 than people who do not have a mental illness, new research published Tuesday found, prompting researchers to urge public health officials to do more to prioritize vulnerable groups in their efforts to control the pandemic.

The findings, which were derived from an analysis of 16 studies that examined the medical records of more than 19,000 people in 7 countries, were not able to accurately assess the risk from different mental disorders, an issue the researchers said future studies could address.
