Patients undergoing mammography preferred having their images interpreted by a radiologist before and after AI review, according to a study published April 18 in Radiology: Imaging Cancer.

Researchers from Dallas-based University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center surveyed 518 mammogram recipients between February and August 2023 to identify their opinions around AI imaging interpretation.

Here are five things to know from the study:

  1. Among all participants, 76.5% reported having “none” or “minimal” knowledge of AI.
  2. Having their imaging interpreted by AI alone was acceptable to 4.44% participants.
