UnitedHealth Group, Cigna, Humana and CVS Health’s Aetna are among health insurers expanding into hundreds of new counties next year to sell Medicare Advantage in this increasingly competitive business.
UnitedHealth, the nation’s largest health insurer, said Friday its UnitedHealthcare insurance business, which has 5.8 million subscribers in its individual Medicare Advantage plans, will grow by 276 new counties to 2,629 counties in 2022. These plans, which don’t include special needs plans, are now in 2,427 counties across 49 states and the District of Columbia.
