Since OpenAI launched its flagship large language model ChatGPT in November of 2205, there have been more than a dozen significant upgrades, plug-ins, customizations and other advances to the LLM service. However, OpenAI’s December 17 announcement that it will enable developers to submit apps directly to ChatGPT creating an app directory — or de facto app store — could be the most significant milestone for ChatGPT since its launch.
This is big because it will make it easier for everyday users to explore, find and use digital tools built on top of arguably the best-known generative AI model in the world. By comparison, Apple launched its app store on the iPhone in July 2008 and noted on the 10th anniversary...
