The goal of treatment and care for individuals living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is to achieve viral suppression. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines viral suppression in HIV as having less than 200 copies of HIV per milliliter of blood. This level is considered very low or undetectable if HIV does not show up in viral load tests.
