A study has found people aged 65 and older can experience long-term benefits from treatment for depression and anxiety, even in the face of new stressors such as the death of a spouse.

Many of the significant life changes older people experience are common triggers for depression and , including , bereavement and transitions to retirement, caring roles or aged care.

Despite this, both conditions are under-diagnosed in older people, with their symptoms often labeled a “natural” part of aging.
